Restaurant Reviews: Jones Creek Cafe & Oyster Bar (Baton Rouge, LA)
For a higher class place that this is supposed to be I was highly disappointed. This place has been around for many year and we had all but forgotten about this place until we were offered a “groupon” for Half price to eat here. We were Literally the ONLY ones in the place when we went. Service was mediocre at best. Waiter seemed more interested in his conversation with co workers in the kitchen than taking care of us.
Char grilled oysters were cold and barely cooked, pretty much raw. the bread that came with them was very stale and not good at all. We informed the waiter about this and he did not even offer to resolve the issue. He just said “I am sorry” and took them away! Yet we were still charged for them! Their dinner salad is nothing sort of a joke, lettuce mix from a bag and side of almost tasteless dressing.very poor effort to say the least. House dressing was like water.
My brother got a steak that was ordered medium rare and came out so rare is was almost raw. The butter they put on top of the steak almost choked both of us it was so full of some kind of herb…I think it was sage. They did take the steak back, cooked it some more and took the butter off per my request. After that it WAS edible but not great.
My plate was ok, fried catfish and shrimp. Though the catfish was belly meat (with the dark stripe on it) but tasted ok, but this kind of place should be using quality back fillets. shrimp were big and very good. Both our baked potatoes were cold and not soft at all in middle, butter did not even melt when put on it. Again, very poor effort.
This place has been disappointing in the recent past, but this was the worst trip. No wonder they are sending out groupons, their business is suffering because of the lack of quality food and even worse cooking of the food. Just a little effort and pride in their work would make the difference. I will most likely not be back here for a very long time if ever.
