Well where do I begin??? This Huge Place is Located in a hard to find area of Shreveport, LA. They claim to have been operating since 1939 and also claim they have the world’s BEST BBQ so Of course The Bayou Brothers had to put that kind of claim to the test! When we first went inside we noticed the place is so dimly lit you can hardly find your way around the place..This may be intentional for reasons that will follow in this review.
We were seated and we ordered the hot wings for appetizer. They came out fast but they were obviously pre packaged frozen wings, on top of that they were fried so long they were like little rocks!! As we browsed the menu we noticed this place is very proud of their food, (they claim to have been voted BEST ribs in Texas and also claim their BBQ was requested by name by 2 US presidents (they do not mention which 2) I also say they are proud because of the prices…For example, a BBQ Beef brisket plate will cost you $18.. They seem to say their ribs are the best so that is what I had. I ordered the so called “medium” plate for $17. When it came out I found out medium plate means 5 lonely ribs on a plate with a side of soggy fries and a tiny cup of baked beans. The Ribs were passable, but just average BBQ at best. A far cry from what I would call world famous. the beans tasted like straight chili powder. I could not eat them. Eric had the Brisket Sandwich, which is the cheapest thing on the menu ($10) Brisket was moist and tender but again just average restaurant BBQ, nothing special or WOWing about it…and again the sides were bad, potato salad tasted heavily of dill and was over cooked.
This place may have had great BBQ at some point , but we conclude that this place is now “living off of its famous name” rather than continuing to put care into what they put out. We recommend you look elsewhere if you are wanting BBQ in Shreveport
