Restaurant Reviews: Santa Fe Cattle company (Baton Rouge, LA)
Sante Fe Cattle company Is a chain restaurant which recently opened a Location in Baton Rouge, LA. The building they took over formers housed a second location of the famous “walk ons” among others, for some reason no one can seem to make this location work out. It is a large lovely 2 story building with outside patio seating available. Santa Fe redid the decor and it looks great. HUGE TV’s and an excellent Bar.
We were eagerly greeted and seated right away. The wait staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Each table has a bucket of peanuts free of charge and you are allowed an even encouraged to throw your peanut shells on the ground. We did notice it was a tad slow as far as customer volume but by the time we left there were more customers in the place.
The Items we Decided on was The Chips and Queso Dip with Beef. the Chicken Fried Steak and the rib eye Steak Sandwich.
The appetizer came out Very fast. We liked the chips very much, thin and crispy with a light salting. the dip was satisfactory but not anything dazzling by a long shot. We thought it was to thick and sure enough as soon as it cooled a tad it was to thick to dip a chip without breaking it. But Still Dip was tasty and we noticed several others had also ordered it so apparently it is a popular choice.
We REALLY like the house salad here. We both had one with our entree in place of one of the sides. Santa Fe Puts a lot of stuff in this salad where as most places just give you lettuce and tomatoes for a house salad. this salad, had tomato, cucumber, onion, cheese, Croutons & Lettuce topped off with their house dressing (Chipotle-bacon ranch) All the produce was fresh and the Dressing was really good!!
The Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed potatoes was next. While it was cooked well, nice and crispy and a large portion, I found this very “run of the mill” type of dish that could be had anywhere that offers fried steak. Although again, it was still satisfactory no doubt. The Potatoes with Made with Red skin potatoes and made in house not an instant potato mix like a lot of chains use, we applaud them for the extra effort.
The Rib Eye Sandwich was a bit more impressive a tin cut rib eye steak on a hoagie toll with Tomato, Red onion and the waiter brought a side of Chipotle Mayo to put on the bread which was VERY tasty! the steak was seasoned well and cooked to our asking of medium and it ate well. it was nice and tender and the meat broke as it should with each bite, having to fight to tear the meat with your teeth.
We hope Sante Fe Cattle Company is the one that can make this seemingly cursed location work for along period of time because the building as we said is very nice and deserves to have a place operating inside. We give them an over all thumbs up and we suggest you give them a try!
